 Diagrams

These pieces were primary produced starting in 2000 during my time in art school and in 2018 in preparation for a group show in Seattle. These pieces allowed me to explore the intersection between abstraction and meaning. These diagrams can be characterized as abstract assemblages with recognizable reference points. I thought of them as earnest attempts at condensing rich, complex subject matter down to drips of paint through juxtaposing traditional abstract expressionist painting methods with cartography, proofreader’s marks, and amateur roadside museum techniques of display, classification, and critique.
